What is The Blanket Program?
Our blanket program is a partnership with Doug Dodge’s Forged by Fire motorcycle ministry and with the community as a whole in order to provide those in need with handmade blankets.
The program started in 2013, where we hosted a party that saw our community come together to make 130 blankets that we took to Dayton Children’s Hospital on Christmas day.
We are big believers in the “go big or go home” mentality here at The Deli & Top of the Market so that is what we did to help expand the program in 2014. We found new ways to get word out about the program and we had a lot of support from our vendors, guests, employees, and the community. In 2014, between our two blanket parties and outside donations, we were able to make 504 blankets to distribute to our community.
In 2015, we accomplished a few more goals that we had set for the program! Our Birthday Blanket Bash saw a record number of blankets made at one event at 388! We made 682 blankets for the year, beating our number from last year by 178, and we crossed the 1,000 blanket mark for the program altogether – in fact, we are now at 1,316 blankets total for the program!
Where do we go from here?
In 2016 we want to cross the 2,000 blanket mark for the program! That means that we have 684 blankets to go!
We are already working on the 2016 Blanket Program events! Here are our tentative dates:
